From
the first time I saw Mayorga spar a couple of years and
even up to a couple of weeks ago, in Las Vegas, I always
knew Felix Trinidad would have the beating of El Matador.
Trinidad has been handling these kinds of fighters all
his life . Rough, tough, brawling kinds of fighters who
fought to feed their families, and to try and escape the
poverty stricken lives they led in the slums of Puerto
Rico..
Tonight in New York, Felix " Tito " Trinidad
handled another rough tough kid, the beating of his life.
Trinidad fought the perfect fight but most importantly,
he fought his fight and did it with great boxing skills
and a veterans patience. The former champion jabbed brilliantly
with the left and feigned, then hit Mayorga with big right
hands before going downstairs and flowing straight into
his trademark combinations, finishing with accurate uppercuts
to Mayorga's badly defended chin.
All Mayorga could do was hang on and try to land the wild
and woolly knockout punches he has used on his previous
opponents. Everyone in boxing knows that Ricardo Mayorga
is crazy, but tonight at Madison Square Garden, he just
fought crazy.
