Green v James Crawford.
" Green" out guns" Crawford, in the wild
west"
Danny Green made a successful return
to the ring last night in his hometown of Perth, Western
Australia. Green [ 22- 20- 2 - 19kos] fought at light
heavyweight, for his first fight since being out boxed
by the German WBC super middleweight champion, Marcus
Beyer, earlier in the year.
Greens opponent was the American, James Crawford. [ 55-
40- 10- 2- 17KOS ] Crawford was experienced and had been
in the ring with some big name fighters in recent years.
Guys like Eric Lucas, Scott Pemberton, Rudy Markussen,
Sven Ottke, and Jeff Lacy. Sounds good. Well not really.
He was knocked out by all of them, bar Eric Lucas who
outboxed him for twelve rounds.
Crawford is one of those fighters that travel the world,
boxing anywhere, anytime, anyone, and through their career,
never get any better. Since turning pro, it was his toughness
that served him so well in his fights, not his skills
as a fighter.
Last night in Perth, Danny Green was, too schooled, too
fast, a boxer for him, and the 36 year old's toughness
deserted him.
Green said he would try to pull back on the aggression
and box the American. Me , i didnt see that. Just as Crawfords
qualities as a fighter was his toughness, Greens qualities
are of pure aggression.
Last night Danny Green showed a tremendously fast and
accurate jab which he seemed to land at will against the
slow and limited Crawford. Add Greens left hooks to Crawfords
body and head and you had a out gunned, veteran fighter
who should now throw away his boxing passport. [ but he
wont] Danny Green made a successful return to the ring,
but why fight at light heavy?
There is a list of names out there for Green at super
middleweight.
Whats next for The Green Machine"?
Danny Green has said he wants to continue
fighting for the WBC super middleweight title. To get
to within reach of a third match with the champion Marcus
Beyer, he must challenge the American, Scott Pemberton
for the No 1 contender position that Pemberton has in
his pocket. Pemberton blasted out Crawford in three rounds
and while Green took five rounds to stop Crawford, a fight
between these two warriors would be a good match up.
Green might have to wait on that one !.
Another fight worth waiting for, would be Green v Mundine.
This Australian domestic superfight fight has been talked
about more than enough, and with both boxers earning the
kind of money, that Aussie boxers can only dream about,
its time to get it on. At 32, and the way he fights in
the ring, Danny Green dosen't have too many more chances
at World championship fights, and this fight with Anthony
"The Man" Mundine would once and for all, satisfy
the Australian fight fans, and maybe even "The Green
Machine's" bank manager.
