| "Billy
The Kid's Graduation night"
On the 27th of July, Billy Dib [ W6- L0- D0 -4kos] will
take a huge step up in class and face the Philipino ,
Bobby Pacquiao in Sydney, Australia on the undercard of
Vic Darchiyans world title defence against Jair Jimenez.According
to promoter, William Takataka, he has offered Paqcuiao
a substancial purse to make the fight a reality.
Pacquiao is without doubt , the toughest, most experienced
fighter, the young Aussie has ever faced. In April this
year, "Billy The Kid" fought and beat Robert
Oyan for the vacant IBO Asia Pacific Super featherweight
title after only five fights and the fight before that
, he won the Australian title by stopping Jungstar Min
in two rounds.
Just like his big brother, Manny, Bobby throws lots of
punches and swarms his opponents, loves to come forward
and has a 39 fight, eight year career under his belt.
In his career thus far, he has blown away his opponents
early, been blown away early himself, been the championship
distance, and probably the most worrying thing for"
Billy The Kid" is he still carries his knockout power
into the late rounds. Some encouraging news is he has
been stopped on six occasions, most recently in February
this year by the experienced Thai puncher, Phafrakorb
Rakkietgym in the ninth round.
Without doubt, his most recent 7th round ko win over Carlos
Navarro in June , has gave the Philipino , new confidence
and riding high on the Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao publicity
wave, has elevated his career to new heights as a boxer.
I remember Billy Dib when he was in the amateurs. I had
watched him, studied his style and worked in his opponents
corner on many occasions. He was a good kid but what i
liked about him, was he allways knew where he was going,
and what he wanted to do in life.
When he turned pro, in August 2004, he made the transition
to the paid ranks, by fighting and beating the awkward
Nagin Gurumu in the 4th round. To watch him, you would
never have guessed that this, was his first fight. I was
in Nagins corner and i felt sorry for him , as i watched
"The Kid" torment him with dazzling speed and
solid punching from angles unseen in an Aussie ring .
After a short trip to Sheffield, England, to train with
his boyhood hero and idol, Prince Nasseem Hamed, Dib came
back to Sydney to further his career, and with a tremendous
team around him in trainer, Harry Hammoud, and brother,
Emaio[ Matt] as his manager, "Billy The Kid"
is in good hands it seems.
When people read this, they will say, that this guy is
moving too fast?
Come July, we will see if the confident, and crafty, even
cheeky slickster from Sydney has moved into the big time
too fast. If the fight goes ahead and Bobby Pacquiao does
come down under , then surely if Billy Dib pulls it off,
then it will definately be" Graduation night"
for the young whippersnapper.
