ONCE AND FOR ALL, VEGAS GOT IT RIGHT. OR DID THEY.......

Barrera VS Morales.

Marco antonio Barrera jabbed and punched his way into the history books tonight by beating his Mexican arch enemy, Eric Morales on a majority points decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Barrera started the fight well by punching wildly from all angles but he seemed to be focusing on Morales mid section, before going up top landing left and right hooks. Morales was more economical with his punches in the first . Barrera wins round No 1.

Morales jabbed well then stepped in slightly ,landing uppercuts to Barrera. Barrera taking shots but comes inside to land his own uppercuts. Morales wins round No 2.

Morales seemed to be landing the more clinical punches and Barrera throwing everything wild and with with serious intent, catching Morales with a great left hook followed by an uppercut in the last seconds of the round. Tremendous battle. Barrera wins round No 3.

Barrera started the round well with using his excellent jab, and setting him up for his wild left right hooks. Morales is throwing the more quality punches and Barrera seemed to be tiring. Morales wins round No 4.

Barrera and Morales changing the tempo of the fight and both fighters trying to out fox each other with tactics. last minute of the round , Morales chose to out jab Barrera, and Barrera answered him with a string of punches in the reAUSSIEBOXing 30 seconds of the round. Morales wins round No 5.

Barrera decides to go back to using his radar like jab, and suddenly , Morales was being totally out boxed in the centre of the ring. Barrera was landing some big shots and Morales was looking like he was ready to go. Barrera wins round No 6.

Morales came out and took control of the fight with his accurate power punching . Barrera took them and stuck to using the jab, and also came in with his own power hooks to Morales head. Morales wins round No 7.

Morales catching Barrera with lightning fast right hands from the outside and Barrera not as effective on the inside . Morales wins round 8.

Barrera came out blazing , and throwing everything at Morales. hooks, uppercuts. he looked as if he really wanted this win. referee warned Barrera for rough housing tactics on the inside. Barrera wins round No 9.

Morales happy to coast through the round and Barrera was winning the round with great offensive and also defensive, until the last 20 seconds , and Morales opened up to steal the round. Morales wins round No 10.

Morales was trying to be stylish and also trying to be the boxer, but Barrera would have none of it. he drew Morales into a war with both men landing huge power punches, and Barrera looking the stronger at this stage of the fight. Barrera wins 11th round. best round of the fight .

Round 12 continued where round 11 finished. Barrera and Morales threw punch after punch until the bell rang. Barrera wins round No12.

As you can see, i scored the fight even- a draw. Barrera possibly did enough to win by majority decision, and in this trilogy, someone had to win.The Mexican people would have demanded it. im sure boxing fans around the world would have scored it a draw. two men, 36 rounds of boxing, at its very best. Vegas got it right, or did they...........

In an action packed undercard , Mexico's Oscar Larios out punched australias Nedal Hussein in their WBC. super bantamweight world title fight.
Larios fought his usual style as expected and won almost every round.
Hussein seemed to be focusing on landing one big punch the entire fight, and Larios dictating the fight with flurries of combinations and arm punches.
scores atter 12 rounds: 118 -110, 120 -109, and 119-109.

Mexico's Rafael Marquez's, rematch fight with Columbia's, Mauricio Pastrana, for the IBF. bantamweight championship belt, was as exciting and entertaining as their first fight. Marquez proving to be too accurate with his powerful jabs , and quality right, left hooks, which finally took their toll to systematically brake down the hard man from columbia. In round seven , the end was near , as Pastrana was taking a beating , fighting with his right eye closed, until at the end of the round, he signalled he didnt want to continue. you could call this a TKO win to Marquez, but to me it was a systematic battering of a great former champion, by a superb new champion.

Puerto Rican southpaw, and mini-fly weight WBO champion, Ivan" Iron Boy" Calderon easily outboxed, out thought , out fought , the tough Mexican, Carlos Fajardo , to win by unanimous decision. He did so by showcasing his fantastic boxing skills and doing it in style, having alot of fun at the other guys expence. Judges scores: 120-107, 118-109, 119-108. Without doubt, the best boxer on the card tonight.
