PORKY TAKES VICTORIAN TITLE AT SOUTHERN STORM
September 26, 2003

The chant started long before the fight. "Porky...Porky..."

Matt Shaw expertly disposed of wild Irishman John L Sullivan and ended his post-win comments with "Let's Go Porky!" - a sporting and fitting intro for the main event, and the crowd roared their approval.

Queen's anthem "We Will Rock You" had barely begun when the Dandenong Basketball stadium erupted - hundreds of cheering, chanting Porky fans welcomed their hero to the ring. The atmosphere was electric, and the enthusiasm contagious.

Daniel Lovett - a shock of blond hair, fit and focused - acknowledged the fans and warmed up as the champ Serge Llancafilo made his entrance. There was no disrespect from the crowd - only applause & anticipation.

The bell rang, and the war was on. Every time the challenger looked like he might be tiring, a thunderous "Let's go Porky! Lets GO!" echoed round the room. And go Porky did. Llancafilo's skilled performance was not enough to stop the Porky train, or even slow it down. A unanimous points decision, and the hand of new Victorian Super Middleweight Champion.. Daniel "Porky" Lovett was raised in victory. Mobile phones were everywhere around the ring relaying the winner's speech while the cheering went on and on.

Serge Llancafilo was a true sportsman and gracious in defeat - certainly not disgraced - but the night belonged to Porky.

Boxing as it should be.
